What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?
My most prominent and exciting recent project was the Le Pavillon restaurant at One Vanderbilt tower in Manhattan. My firm collaborated with Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld to create this visually stunning, French pavilion-inspired space for Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud. The design challenge was to create an intimate dining experience within a 55-ft.-high space, surrounded by a glass curtain wall. This was achieved by designing a sloped, soffited ceiling, supported by cantilevered steel needle beams, to cover half of the dining area. This visual reduction in height provided intimacy to the space. The remaining area of the dining room has a ceiling height of 55 ft. and is filled with lush, woodland-type greenery, which required structural revisions and complex irrigation, lighting, and plumbing systems. Upon completion, the restaurant was praised for both its menu and interior design.
