NYREJ’s 2023 Ones to Watch Industry Leaders: MDA Project Manager, Richard Moon, RA, AIA

Jul 19, 2023 | Community, News

Number of years in CURRENT position: 4

What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of? I am very proud of our firm’s work on two projects for Tishman Speyer: the 630,000 s/f adaptive re-use, redevelopment and expansion of the Morgan North postal facility into workspace and the redesign of the 17,254 s/f Top of The Rock viewing terrace and guest experience, both in Manhattan. The Morgan North is nearing completion, while construction of Rockefeller Center’s terrace project is about to begin. The Morgan North building features a newly constructed and planted 100,000 s/f rooftop park for tenants.

What makes this nominee an Industry Leader? “Montroy DeMarco Architecture has entrusted Richard Moon with managing some of the firm’s largest and most challenging projects. His technical design skills and experience place him among the leading young architectural professionals in the U.S. Richard is respected by clients, colleagues and subordinates who appreciate his design talent as well as kindness, patience and respectful manner in which he conducts business.” – Peter Wilk, President at Wilk Marketing Communications.

3 skills that you use every day in your position: Clear communication, courtesy and patience in dealing with all team members, and practical understanding of the construction process.

Best book, podcast, or app for aspiring leaders: “Architect & Developer: A Guide to Self-Initiating Projects” by James Petty AIA. It helps team members better understand projects from a developer’s perspective, so that architects can approach the design process more holistically.

Best advice for new leaders in 10 words or less: Provide guidance and feedback to your staff so that they can gain confidence and skills to grow in the profession. Stronger team means better executed projects.
