NYREJ’s 2024 Women in Construction Spotlight: MDA Jessica Gross, Associate AIA & WELL AP
New York Real Estate Journal’s 2024 Women In Construction: Jessica Gross, Associate AIA, WELL AP, Designer & Furniture Manager, Montroy DeMarco Architecture LLP
“Jessica is an accomplished designer, who excels in managing multiple projects at iconic commercial properties. A consummate professional and supportive leader, she is trusted and relied upon by our firm’s real estate clients. Her contributions have allowed Montroy DeMarco Architecture to provide industry leading services in NYC and expand to Boston and Philadelphia.” – Daniel Montroy, AIA, Principal at Montroy DeMarco Architecture.
What recent project, accomplishment or award are you most proud of? Following numerous commercial and workplace design projects at Capital Properties’ 111-115 Broadway in NYC, the landlord invited Montroy DeMarco Architecture to reposition and rebrand the 540,000 s/f Park Square building in Boston. The opportunity to design new public spaces and pre-built offices within a historic downtown Boston property has been very rewarding, as was the landlord’s continued trust in my firm’s and my personal expertise.
What do you like best about being a woman in the AEC industry? While pursuing my own career and watching female peers excel in the design industry, I am continuously inspired by women’s achievements in architecture. I have learned from female role models and am honored to now mentor young female professionals myself. Women designers contribute not only talent, but also effective communication, both keys to success in the hybrid work environment.
What is one of the most exciting developments or innovations impacting the AEC industry right now? Technology, specifically design and collaboration applications, are transforming the architectural industry – PlanGrid, Bluebeam and many others. We can quickly and efficiently translate our ideas, concepts and notes into formal designs without jeopardizing quality. Just as importantly, these digital tools enable hybrid and remote design work, a critical aspect of today’s AEC industry.
